Race & Homelessness Workshop Recap!
Thank you to everyone who attended our Race and Homelessness workshop! This workshop led by MSP’s Director of Chapter Operations, Cecily Ma, covered many historical and present discriminatory policies around housing, land use, property rights, criminal justice, and health care. These complexities have made home ownership and wealth accumulation inaccessible for many people of color. Watch the workshop recording below on our YouTube channel to learn more about the complex intersectionalities and injustices that exist in regard to race and homelessness.
This was truly a night to remember, energizing many of us to continue our mission combating homelessness.
** All of these issues are incredibly complex and this is just the tip of the ice berg! This content in no way, shape, or form covers all of the important aspects regarding this topic. **

This project is filled with exceedingly dedicated members who are ready to serve and advocate for our neighbors at-risk-of or experiencing homelessness. Our team has done an amazing job mobilizing and making our communities stronger.
This month, we have used the Community Relief Fund to pay for:
Motel vouchers for 2 individuals living in transitional housing and rental assistance for an elderly individual.
A backpack for an individual to safe guard his belongings and furnishing for another individual’s new apartment.
Bus passes for 2 individuals to attend to their appointment
Below are of the wonderful efforts some of our VSN’s have accomplished this month:
Member Spotlight
One of our members from the UC Riverside chapter, Kaitlyn Ngo, raised $1,500 in donations from Starbucks Inc. to support the Mustard Seed Project’s Community relief fund. Below, Kaitlyn shares her experience volunteering with MSP this past year.
βI have thoroughly enjoyed continuing outreach virtually since joining the volunteer service navigation team! It has been a gratifying experience helping file taxes to get stimulus checks and also submitting online applications for other benefits as COVID has made it difficult for everyone, especially individuals who are experiencing homelessness, to access resources both in-person and over the phone.β
Our wonderful members never cease to impress us with their passion and dedication to this project to help those in need.
